East London gears up for Women’s History Month

March is officially Women’s History Month in East London, and this year there will be an unusually wide range of events to mark the occasion.

Organised by Alternative Arts and Tower Hamlets Council, the programme includes art exhibitions, female-led theatre, workshops, music, talks and more.

Art Exhibitions of note are Abi Morocco Photos at Autograph, Citra Sasmita at the Barbican, the Women’s Spring Open Exhibition at the Brady Arts Centre, Women & Sportat Poplar Union, Wonderful Women at St Margaret’s House, Rockat Gayhurst School and Moving Grounds at the Whitechapel Gallery.

If live performances are your thing, you might try Nadia Reid at EartH, Sounds Like Home International Women’s Choir at St Margaret’s House, A Little Inquest Into What We Are Doing Here by This Egg at Shoreditch Town Hall, The Women of Llanrumney at Theatre Royal Stratford East, Pride and PrejudiceBlack is the Color of My Life or Mary and the Hyenas at Wilton’s Music Hall.

Other events not to miss include Mothers, Daughters & Sons Workshop with A Team Arts & Education at the Brady Arts Centre, Exiled Writers Ink presenting Refugee & Migrant Workers Speak Out at Bethnal Green Library, Otij-jo Collective’s workshops at the Rich Mix, Republic of London and Poplar Union, and Breda Corish exploring 500 years of Irish Women in Tower Hamlets at the Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives.
